Sensex, Nifty End Marginally Higher Amid Hormuz Uncertainty
Imagine a giant shop where people buy tiny pieces of companies, called stocks.
A group of these pieces is called an index, like a scoreboard.
India has two famous scoreboards: the Sensex and the Nifty.
On Monday, both scoreboards went up just a tiny bit.
Many investors were being careful because of something far away called the Strait of Hormuz, a sea route used by ships carrying oil.
If that route closes, oil might get expensive, and that could affect prices in shops.
Banks and some food companies lost value, but companies that build houses did well.
Investors are now waiting for new reports from companies about how much money they made.
Because of this, people expect the markets to keep moving a little this week.
The Sensex closed 43.27 points (0.06%) higher at 78,542.44, while the Nifty gained 13.15 points (0.05%) to settle at 24,583.80.
Both benchmarks traded in a narrow range as investors awaited clarity on the agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Nifty faces resistance in the 24,600–24,700 zone, with 24,500 as the key support level.
The Nifty Realty index was the best-performing sector, while Nifty PSU Bank fell nearly 2%.
State Bank of India, ITC and Eternal were among the Nifty laggards, and the Q1FY27 earnings season is expected to drive stock-specific activity.
