FIR Accuses Jignesh Mevani and Seven Others of Obstructing Police
Police in Gujarat filed a case against Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani and seven other people.
The case concerns an event at Pethapur police station on October 8.
Yunus Parmar, a Congress candidate, had been called in for questioning.
This followed a complaint alleging that Parmar and associates threatened a BJP campaigner.
Police Inspector A.M. Desai says Mevani and the others disrupted his work and stopped Parmar’s statement from being recorded.
The complaint also alleges that slogans were raised and a video was shared online in a way that could increase tensions between communities.
These are allegations in the FIR, not a finding that anyone is guilty.
Police said no one had been arrested when the report was published.
Police registered an FIR against Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani and seven others on Sunday, October 11; no arrests were reported.
The complaint says the incident happened October 8 at Pethapur police station while Congress candidate Yunus Parmar was being questioned.
Inspector A.M. Desai alleges the group obstructed his work, caused a commotion and prevented Parmar’s statement from being recorded.
The FIR also alleges community-related slogans were raised and a video was shared online to promote enmity; these remain allegations.
The accused were booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Gujarat Police Act, during the Gandhinagar civic election.
