ISRO to Build Radar Facility Near Guwahati for Space Tracking
ISRO is building a new radar centre near Guwahati.
The centre will watch satellites and other objects moving around Earth.
It will help scientists notice space debris that could hit working spacecraft.
The project is part of ISRO’s NETRA tracking network.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid its foundation stone on September 21.
ISRO Chairman V Narayanan attended the ceremony.
The centre will also study the atmosphere and the area near Earth.
It will help with weather, cloud, and space-weather observations.
Scientists may also use its information for communication, navigation, and future space missions.
A new radar and satellite-tracking facility is being built in Chandrapur near Guwahati, Assam.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone on September 21, with ISRO Chairman V Narayanan present.
The facility is part of the Indian Space Research Organisation’s Network for Space Object Tracking and Analysis, or NETRA.
It is intended to improve Space Situational Awareness and help protect space assets from collisions with space debris.
The centre will support atmospheric and ionospheric observations, weather and cloud monitoring, space-weather research, and communication and navigation studies.
