International Youth Day 2026 Unites Youth Through Shared Aspirations
International Youth Day is a special day for young people all around the world.
It happens every year on 12 August.
On this day, everyone celebrates the good things young people do to make their communities better.
The United Nations made this official in 1999, after a big meeting about young people was held in Lisbon in 1998.
This year, the theme is 'Different Contexts and Common Aspirations.'
That means even though young people live in different countries and have different lives, they share the same hopes and dreams.
The day reminds us that young people everywhere want peace and a better world.
It also asks leaders to listen to young people and let them help make important decisions.
Youth Day shows that when we work together, we can make the world a better place.
International Youth Day is celebrated every year on 12 August.
The United Nations General Assembly officially proclaimed 12 August as International Youth Day in 1999.
The celebration originated from a recommendation at a 1998 international conference on youth in Lisbon.
The 2026 theme is 'Different Contexts and Common Aspirations,' highlighting unity among youth despite differences.
The day calls on policymakers and stakeholders to involve young people in decision-making processes.
