What Systolic Blood Pressure Means for Long-Term Brain Health

What Systolic Blood Pressure Means for Long-Term Brain Health

Blood pressure is measured with two numbers, and the top number is called systolic pressure.

Dr Kota Reddy said readings of 100 or 110 can be good for the brain if they do not cause dizziness.

He also said the top number should ideally stay below 120.

High blood pressure can hurt the brain over time.

This warning applies to people of any age.

Dr Nitin K Sethi agreed that healthy blood pressure can lower the risk of strokes and damage to tiny blood vessels in the brain.

However, he said blood pressure that is too low can also cause problems.

So the goal is a healthy range, not simply the lowest possible number.
