Delhi Agricultural Marketing Board clears encroachments in wholesale markets
Some markets in Delhi are very crowded and busy.
Sometimes, people set up shops in places they are not allowed to, like on sidewalks or parking spots.
This is called encroachment.
The Delhi Agricultural Marketing Board decided to clean up these markets.
Their team cleared illegal shops, roadside vendors and carts from the market areas.
They took away fruits, vegetables and even weighing scales used by sellers without permission.
They also removed stray animals that were wandering in the market.
Many fines were collected from people who broke the rules.
Now the markets have more space for people to walk and drive through.
This helps keep the markets safe and organised.
The Delhi Agricultural Marketing Board cleared more than 4,100 square feet of encroached space in Ghazipur wholesale markets.
The drive, run from the last week of July to the first week of August, led to the confiscation of several quintals of agricultural produce.
In Azadpur markets, more than 95 cases of encroachment and unauthorised loading and unloading were detected, with over Rs 20,900 recovered in fines.
Around 75 to 80 stray animals were removed from market premises in coordination with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
Okhla Mandi saw about 140 kg of fruits and vegetables seized, while Shahdara market saw around 215 kg of produce and 11 illegal weighing scales confiscated.
