Shimla Ice Rink Opens for Skating
The big ice rink in Shimla, which is the largest natural one in Asia, is opening for skating on Thursday.
It's smaller now because of building work nearby.
People can skate in the morning starting at 8 am, and the evening sessions will depend on how good the ice is.
The rink is special because it was made in 1920 when an Irish officer noticed water freezing quickly on a tennis court.
Last year, the rink opened on December 11, and the number of skating sessions can vary a lot depending on the weather.
Some people who tried skating for the first time said it was a fun experience, even if they fell a bit.
The club that runs the rink has about 300 members, and you can pay to skate for the whole season.
Asia's largest natural ice rink in Shimla is set to open for skating on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
The rink, originally formed in 1920, has been shrunk to 40m X 20m due to nearby construction.
Morning skating sessions will start at 8 am, with evening sessions dependent on ice quality.
Subscription fees for the full season are Rs 3,000 for seniors and Rs 1,800 for juniors under 16.
The rink's formation is challenged by construction activity and demolition work blocking sunlight.
