Delhi HC Halts I-T Action Against Human Rights NGO
Imagine a charity called CHRI that helps people with human rights.
The government tried to stop them from getting money from other countries (FCRA cancellation).
The first time, a court said the government's reason wasn't good enough.
The government tried again, but CHRI is fighting this in court too.
Now, the Income Tax department wanted to cancel the charity's registration, but the Delhi High Court has said they can't do that for now.
So, CHRI can still operate while the court figures out if the government was right to stop them from getting foreign money.
Delhi High Court set aside an Income Tax Department notice to cancel CHRI's registration.
The I-T Department cited the NGO’s earlier FCRA cancellation by the Centre.
CHRI's FCRA registration was cancelled twice by the Centre.
The court previously quashed the Centre's initial FCRA cancellation, citing lack of reasoning.
The second FCRA cancellation is under challenge before the HC, with a hearing scheduled for September 14.
