Deep Depression Brings Heavy Rain and School Closures
A strong weather system called a deep depression moved across the coast near Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
It brought heavy rain and rough conditions.
Officials closed schools in several districts to help keep children safe.
Anganwadi centres were also closed in many affected areas.
Teachers and school staff were still asked to report to work in Odisha.
The system was moving north-northwest and was expected to become weaker.
Rain could continue even after the system weakens.
Families should check notices from their own district or school because there is no holiday across either entire state.
A deep depression crossed the North Andhra Pradesh–South Odisha coast near Kalingapatnam between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
The India Meteorological Department said the system was moving north-northwestwards and would gradually weaken into a depression.
Schools and Anganwadi centres closed in eight Odisha districts and several northern Andhra Pradesh districts.
Odisha forecast extremely heavy rain on Thursday, very heavy rain on September 25 and 26, and heavy rain on September 27.
Closures are district-level decisions, so families must follow fresh notices from local administrations and schools.
