BC JAC Presses for 42% Quota in Telangana
Leaders from many different groups for Backward Classes (BCs) in Telangana met in Hyderabad.
They are asking the government to give them 42% of the seats in local elections, which is a higher number than they have now.
They believe they have strong reasons, based on laws and how many people are in these groups, to get this higher number.
They also celebrated a recent day when many people in the state stopped working to show their support.
The leaders plan to create smaller groups in every part of the state to make sure everyone's voice is heard and to keep pushing for their goal.
BC JAC held a meeting in Hyderabad with representatives from 80 BC caste and 35 BC associations.
The organization appointed state-level conveners for various BC communities, workers' unions, and student bodies.
BC JAC is advocating for a 42% reservation quota for Backward Classes in local body elections in Telangana.
The group cited legal and constitutional grounds for their demand and expressed confidence in ongoing court cases.
BC JAC thanked political parties for their support of a recent state-wide bandh and warned against attempts to dilute their reservation demand.
