Chennai to Transform Dump Yard into Urban Forest
Imagine a big trash area, like a dump, in Chennai.
The city is working hard to clean it up!
Once they clear some space, they plan to plant lots of trees to make a mini-forest.
They're going to plant about 1,500 native trees.
This will create a nice green space with healthy air.
The goal is to make the area better for plants, animals, and people, and improve the air quality.
The project is starting small, but if it works well, they'll plant even more trees in other parts of the old dump.
Chennai Corporation plans to create an urban forest on reclaimed land from the Kodungaiyur dump yard.
The project involves planting 1,500 native tree saplings across three acres.
The initiative aims to transform the landfill into a mini urban forest, improving biodiversity and air quality.
The project is allocated Rs 56 lakh and will be executed in two work packages.
The success of the project may lead to replication on other reclaimed areas of the dump yard.
