BMC's Regal Cinema Beautification Faces Heritage Opposition
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) wants to make the Regal Cinema Circle in Colaba look nicer.
Some people who live there think this will ruin the old, historic look of the area.
They also worry that new traffic rules could make it harder to get around.
The BMC has asked the city’s heritage committee to check the plan, but the committee says it needs more changes.
The residents are upset and want the old look to be kept.
BMC floated a tender to beautify Regal Cinema Circle in Colaba.
Residents and heritage activists oppose the plan, citing heritage loss and traffic concerns.
The Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee (MHCC) has asked for a revised proposal and has put the project on hold.
Key changes in the plan include a new one‑way route on CSM Road, new pavement, parking, and removal of a water fountain.
The MHCC officer says the proposal has not been resubmitted and no modified version has been received.
