Tamil Nadu Plans Subsidised Onion Sales Through Ration Shops
Onion prices have gone up in Tamil Nadu.
This makes cooking more expensive for families.
The state government plans to buy onions in bulk and sell them through ration shops.
It has asked the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India for 70,000 kilograms of onions.
People may be able to buy them for Rs 30 to Rs 40 per kilogram.
That would be cheaper than the prices in many markets.
Officials will first see how much demand there is.
They will announce the start date and buying limits after the onions arrive.
