Citizens Demand FIR Against VHP-Bajrang Dal Over Namaz Harassment
A group of people from different communities in Kalyan, Mumbai, visited a college to ask the authorities to take action against members of the VHP and Bajrang Dal.
These members allegedly forced Muslim students to apologize for praying (namaz) in the college.
The group wants the college to file a police report (FIR) against those who harassed the students and to make the college safer.
They also want the college to provide a place where students of all faiths can practice their religion without any problems.
Another group, the Students Islamic Organisation, also spoke up against the incident, saying it was an attack on religious freedom and asked for strict action against those responsible.
A multi-faith delegation visited Ideal College of Pharmacy in Kalyan to demand action against VHP-Bajrang Dal members for allegedly harassing Muslim students offering namaz.
The delegation claimed that students performed Friday prayers in an empty classroom with permission and demanded an FIR against those responsible for intimidation.
They also asked for disciplinary action against students who recorded and shared the prayers on social media, enhanced security, psychological counseling for affected students, and a common space for religious practices.
The Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) condemned the incident, alleging it was an assault on religious freedom and demanded strict action against the culprits.
The delegation and SIO urged the college administration to ensure security and prevent such incidents to maintain religious harmony.
