IAEA to remove Syrian nuclear material under US-brokered deal

Syria is a country in the Middle East that used to be ruled by a strict leader named Bashar al-Assad.

He secretly worked on a nuclear programme, which worried other countries.

A long time ago, in 2007, Israel destroyed the main building of that programme.

But some dangerous material was still hidden in a secret place called 'Site 99.'

The material is called 'yellowcake,' a powder made from rocks that could be used to make a 'dirty bomb.'

A dirty bomb does not explode like a normal bomb - it spreads harmful radioactive dust to make an area unsafe.

Now a safety organization called the IAEA will go and take that dangerous material away.

The United States helped Syria, Israel, and the IAEA agree on this plan.

Syria has a new leader named Ahmed al-Sharaa, who wants other countries to trust Syria again.

Removing this material is one way to help keep people safe.
