Manipur Seeks Aviation Ministry Intervention on Soaring Airfares to Imphal
Imagine the cost of getting to your city has become super high, like a toy costing five times as much as it should!
That's what's happening in Manipur, a state in India.
Their government is telling the airplane bosses that the tickets to fly to and from their main city, Imphal, are way too expensive.
They say it's much more costly than flying to other nearby places.
The government also noticed that some airlines have sent away planes, and one airline even stopped flying important routes.
So, Manipur's government is asking for help to make tickets cheaper and bring back more planes.
They also want to start flights to another country, Thailand, and get more helicopters to fly people to different towns inside Manipur.
They even asked to change the airport's name to honor a local hero.
Manipur government is seeking intervention from the Ministry of Civil Aviation to control soaring airfares to Imphal.
Airfares to Imphal are reported to be 5-6 times higher than to other Northeast regions, causing hardship to the public.
The state government highlighted a reduction in the number of aircraft operating in the Imphal sector and the discontinuation of essential services by Alliance Air on certain routes.
Requests include reviving services on routes like Imphal-Silchar, launching new international passenger and cargo services from Imphal to Bangkok, and increasing helicopter services.
The government also proposed renaming Imphal International Airport to Bir Tikendrajit International Airport.
