Mohanlal’s Kilukkam Shatters Records as Kerala’s First Rs 5 Crore Hit

A long time ago, in 1991, a movie called Kilukkam starring Mohanlal was made.

It was a comedy-drama film and was very expensive to make for that time, costing Rs 60 lakh.

The producer, R Mohan, was not sure if the movie would be successful because it was so expensive.

But the director, Priyadarshan, was very confident.

He even made a bet that if the movie earned more than Rs 1 crore, he would get the rights to remake it in other languages.

The movie ended up earning Rs 5 crore, which was a huge amount back then.

This made Kilukkam the first Malayalam film to cross the Rs 5 crore mark.

It also helped Priyadarshan earn a lot of money from selling the remake rights.

This movie was very important because it showed that Malayalam films could be successful and make a lot of money, just like movies in other languages.
