India Rejects UN Report Linking Pahalgam Attack to Rohingya Treatment
A leader from India's ruling party spoke at the United Nations because a UN expert wrote a report about Myanmar.
This report suggested that a terrorist attack in a place called Pahalgam in India affected how Rohingya refugees from Myanmar were treated in India.
The Indian leader, Dilip Saikia, said this was completely wrong and untrue.
He explained that the attack in Pahalgam had nothing to do with the Rohingya people, and that the UN expert was looking at things with unfair bias.
He also mentioned that there are concerns in India about radicalization among displaced people, which affects law and order.
India, he stressed, wants peace in Myanmar through talking and elections, not violence.
The UN expert is an independent advisor and does not speak for the entire UN.
India has strongly rejected a UN human rights report linking the Pahalgam terror attack to the treatment of Rohingya migrants.
Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia called the report's claims baseless and lacking factual bearing, criticizing a biased communal lens.
The report by UN Special Rapporteur Thomas Andrews alleged that refugees from Myanmar faced pressure in India post-Pahalgam attack, despite no Myanmar nationals being involved.
Saikia accused the Special Rapporteur of relying on unverified and skewed media reports and asked him not to malign India.
India advocates for an immediate cessation of violence, release of political prisoners, humanitarian aid, and inclusive political dialogue in Myanmar.
