India-US Trade Deal Nears Finalization Amid Export Growth

India and the US are very close to finishing a trade deal.

The commerce secretary, Rajesh Agrawal, said they are discussing all the remaining issues.

Both countries have been talking about this deal for a while, and they had meetings in December and January.

The US ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, also said they are working hard to make the deal happen.

There have been some problems, like high taxes and disagreements, but both sides are optimistic and want to finish the deal.

Meanwhile, India's exports grew by 1.87% in December 2025 to $38.5 billion, despite global economic uncertainties.

Imports rose by 8.7% to $63.55 billion, leading to a trade deficit of $25.04 billion.

The main sectors that led to an increase in shipments included engineering, electronics, marine, and pharmaceuticals.

India's exports to the US, China, and the UAE are rising steadily.

The government is also studying the impact of a proposed 25% US tariff on trade with Iran, which is mostly humanitarian in nature.
