Calls Grow to Remove Election Commissioners and Scrap SIR

Calls Grow to Remove Election Commissioners and Scrap SIR

Najeeb Jung has criticized India’s election authorities.

His criticism followed a report by The Indian Express.

The report said two election commissioners objected to parts of a voter-list revision exercise called SIR.

They reportedly raised concerns about some SIR rules.

They also questioned including Form 6 for people voting for the first time.

The report said there were 14 objections over 10 months.

Opposition parties say important decisions may not have been made unanimously.

They are calling for action against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Some critics are also demanding that the commissioners be removed and the elections be annulled.
