Madhya Pradesh High Court Orders State Support for Minor Rape Survivor
A young girl in Madhya Pradesh, India, who was unfortunately sexually assaulted, is going to have a baby.
Because it was unsafe to end the pregnancy, the court decided she should have the baby.
The court has ordered the government to help the girl and her baby.
This includes providing medical care during the pregnancy and after the baby is born.
The government will also pay for all the medical expenses related to the birth and provide the child with free education until they finish high school.
The court is also asking the government to create a plan to help other children born to survivors of sexual assault.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court allowed a 31-week-pregnant minor rape survivor to deliver her baby.
The court ordered the state government to provide complete medical care and support to the survivor and her child.
The minor and her parents submitted a letter to the High Court expressing their decision to carry the pregnancy to term.
The court noted terminating the pregnancy at this stage posed a significant risk to the minor's life.
The state must cover all childbirth expenses and ensure the child's education up to Class 12th.
