Sensex and Nifty Open Higher as PSU Banks Lead Rally

Sensex and Nifty Open Higher as PSU Banks Lead Rally

Indian stocks started Monday higher after falling for eight weeks.

The Sensex rose by more than 400 points at the opening, and the Nifty gained more than 100 points.

Positive trading in Asian markets and softer US jobs data helped investors feel more hopeful.

Shares of public-sector banks rose strongly, along with some media and metal stocks.

Experts said lower share prices and strong car sales might help the market recover.

But expensive oil, high US bond yields and overseas investors selling shares remain concerns.

Investors were also waiting for a possible interest-rate increase from India's central bank on Wednesday.

Oil prices edged lower, which gave the market some relief.
