Supreme Court Orders Attempted Murder Trial for Acid Attackers
The Supreme Court of India said that people who force others to drink acid should be tried for trying to murder them.
They think this is very serious and these people are dangerous.
A woman named Shaheen Malik, who was hurt by acid, asked the court to include people who were forced to drink acid in a law that helps people with disabilities.
The court said they will think about it and make a decision.
They also told the courts in Jammu and Kashmir to finish five cases quickly.
The court wants all states to help acid-attack victims and will talk about it again next year.
Supreme Court orders acid attackers who force victims to ingest acid to be tried under Attempt to Murder (Section 307 of IPC).
Court considers including forceful acid ingestion victims in the definition of 'acid attack victims' under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
Petitioner Shaheen Malik, an acid-attack survivor, argues that forceful acid ingestion victims suffer severe internal injuries and should be included in the RPwD Act.
Court directs High Courts, including Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, to prioritize and conclude pending acid-attack trials.
Next hearing scheduled for January 26, 2026, with states and UTs directed to respond to the plea for amending their schemes to include forceful acid ingestion victims.
