India's First Shoulder Surgery with HDA Patch Improves Patient Outcomes
Imagine your shoulder is like a ball and socket.
Sometimes the shoulder can pop out (dislocate) or the muscles around it can get hurt.
Doctors in India used a new way to fix a shoulder that had problems after a previous surgery.
They used a special patch made from donated skin to help the shoulder heal stronger.
This patch helps the torn muscle and bone grow back together better.
This new method helps reduce the chance of the shoulder getting hurt again, letting patients move their arms normally.
The patient in this case had difficulty using his arm before the procedure and is recovering with rehabilitation.
Amrita Hospital in Faridabad performed North India's first shoulder revision surgery using a Human Dermal Allograft (HDA) patch.
The surgery was performed on Vasu Batra, 28, who previously had a failed Bankart repair.
The surgery used a human dermal allograft patch to repair a torn rotator cuff and reinforce soft tissue.
The HDA patch, derived from donor skin, acts as a biologic scaffold for improved healing.
The patient was discharged within 24 hours and is currently undergoing rehabilitation.
