Heavy Rains Flood Thungaturthi as Tanks Overflow
Heavy rain fell across several areas of the erstwhile Nalgonda district.
The rain was linked to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.
Some places received more than eight centimetres of rain.
Water covered roads and made travel difficult.
A school in Karvirala was surrounded by floodwater.
Several tanks near Thungaturthi filled up and overflowed.
The flooding also affected roads between nearby villages.
Schools in Suryapet district were closed on September 24 to help keep students safe.
A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal brought continuous heavy rain to the erstwhile Nalgonda district from Wednesday night.
Suryapet and several mandals in Nalgonda and Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri districts experienced flooding and disruption.
Maddirala, Nuthankal and Atmakur (S) recorded more than 8 cm of rain, while other areas received 5–7 cm.
Floodwater submerged a primary school in Karvirala and disrupted traffic across Chittaluri Bandham and near Thoorpugudem tank.
Suryapet Collector Tejas Nandalal Pawar declared September 24 a holiday for all schools in the district for student safety.
