Delhi Mandates Age 6 for Class 1 Admissions in 2026
Starting in the school year 2026-27, kids in Delhi must be at least 6 years old to start first grade.
This follows new education rules.
Before first grade, children will go to preschool for three years, including nursery, lower KG, and upper KG classes.
All schools must follow this new rule.
The government wants suggestions from teachers, parents, and others to make sure everything goes smoothly.
Delhi schools will require a minimum age of six for Class 1 admissions, starting 2026-27.
This change aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The foundational stage will include three years of pre-primary education.
All government, aided, and private schools must implement the changes.
The Directorate of Education (DoE) is seeking stakeholder feedback on the implementation.
