Delhi Verifies Over Half of Electors Issued SIR Notices
Delhi is checking the details of people who may be included in its voter list.
About 33 lakh people received notices asking them to show documents.
Officials say they have checked documents for more than half of those people.
Booth-level officers are visiting electors to collect the documents, so they do not have to go to government offices for hearings.
Some people were flagged because they could not be matched to an older voter list or because their forms had discrepancies.
Camps are also helping eligible people who were left off the draft list apply to be added.
The deadline to decide claims and objections is November 30.
Delhi plans to publish the final voter list on December 4.
Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer’s office said 17,03,515 cases flagged for “no mapping” or “logical discrepancy” have been verified.
The verified cases represent more than 51 per cent of roughly 33 lakh electors issued notices during the Special Intensive Revision.
Booth-level officers are visiting electors to collect documents; the CEO’s office said they do not need to visit government offices for hearings.
The poll panel aims to dispose of all claims and objections by November 30 and publish the final electoral roll on December 4.
Special camps and door-to-door visits are being used to help eligible voters missing from the draft roll apply for inclusion.
