CISCE Selects Pilot Schools for Revamped Curriculum
The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has started choosing schools to try out a new curriculum for students up to Class VIII.
This new curriculum aims to make learning more practical and less about memorizing facts.
Around 250 schools from all over India, including 30 from Bengal, will be part of this trial.
The schools were picked based on how well they perform academically, their extra-curricular activities, and their ability to handle the changes.
The new curriculum will be introduced in phases, starting in the 2026-27 school year.
Schools will have to volunteer to be part of this project.
Once they agree, the principals and teachers will get special training to help them teach in the new way.
The goal is to make learning more connected to real life, like using a kitchen garden to teach biology and economics.
CISCE has begun selecting 250 pilot schools across India, including 30 from Bengal, for a revamped curriculum up to Class VIII.
The new curriculum focuses on competency-based, future-focused learning to reduce rote learning and exam-related stress.
Schools were selected based on academic performance, co-scholastic endeavors, and logistical capabilities.
The cohort includes a mix of rural and urban schools, as well as girls' and boys' institutions.
Implementation will begin in phases starting from the 2026-27 academic year, with voluntary participation from schools.
