Maharashtra Declares Paid Holiday for Local Polls
The Maharashtra government has decided that workers in certain areas will get a paid day off on December 2.
This is so they can vote in the elections for local councils and town councils.
The holiday applies to many types of workplaces, like factories, shops, and offices.
However, it does not apply to areas under the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
The government wants to make sure everyone can vote, especially since some people couldn't before because their jobs didn't give them time off.
If a workplace can't give a full day off, they must give a few hours of special leave.
The government says they will take action if workplaces don't follow these rules.
After this first round of voting, there will be more elections for other local councils, but the dates for those haven't been announced yet.
The campaigning for these elections will end at 10 pm on December 1, and the counting of votes will happen on December 3.
Maharashtra government declares December 2 as a paid holiday for employees to vote in municipal council and nagar panchayat elections.
Holiday applies to employees in districts where voting is scheduled, except in PMC and PCMC areas.
Affected establishments include factories, shops, hotels, commercial establishments, IT companies, malls, and retail outlets.
Government warns of action against non-compliant establishments that fail to grant paid leave or adequate time-off.
Campaigning for the elections ends at 10 pm on December 1, and counting of votes will be held on December 3.
