Uranium Contamination in Andhra Pradesh Groundwater

Uranium Contamination in Andhra Pradesh Groundwater

A recent report by the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) in 2025 has found uranium contamination in the groundwater of several areas in Andhra Pradesh.

A social activist named Bolisetty Satyanarayana has been warning about this issue for the past five years.

He says that the uranium mining waste from the Tummalapalle project is leaking into the groundwater because there is no protective layer under the waste storage pond.

This has caused serious health problems in nearby villages, like jaw tumors, skin diseases, and even the deaths of many animals.

The activist is demanding that the government take immediate action to fix the problem, secure the waste pond, and move the affected villagers to safer places.

He also wants the government to provide support for their livelihoods, education, and healthcare.

The state and central pollution control boards, along with the Uranium Corporation of India, need to work together to prevent a bigger environmental disaster.
