NPCIL seeks financial autonomy as India accelerates nuclear power push

NPCIL seeks financial autonomy as India accelerates nuclear power push

India wants to make a lot more electricity using nuclear power, enough to help run everything in the country.

By the year 2047, India wants to make 100 gigawatts of nuclear energy.

A company called NPCIL is in charge of building many of these nuclear power plants.

NPCIL says it has to follow lots of rules and get many approvals, which makes building plants slower and more expensive.

So NPCIL asked for more freedom to decide how to spend its money.

A group of parliament members called a committee looked at this request and agreed it was a good idea.

The committee also wants nuclear power to be treated like other clean energies, such as solar and wind.

It also wants state governments to help more with things like land, water and emergency planning.

NPCIL's bosses at the Department of Atomic Energy heard the suggestion but did not say when or how it would happen.

The committee believes these changes will help India build new nuclear plants faster and reach its clean-energy goals.
