Delhi Police Opens Fresh Probe Into 2,873 Protest-Linked Individuals

Delhi Police has opened a new investigation about 2,873 people linked to a protest march on July 20.

Officials say the people had criminal backgrounds and may have been at the protest site.

The Supreme Court made an order on September 1 about earlier cases connected to the demonstrations.

It cancelled FIRs against protesters but allowed police to open a new case about these 2,873 people.

Police will check whether they were actually at the protest.

They will also look into their past records and whether they were connected to student groups involved in the agitation.

Investigators will check if anyone helped lead or provoke the crowd during violence.

The investigation is meant to establish what, if anything, each person did.
