Municipal Bodies Crack Down on Pollution
The Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, and Panvel municipal bodies are taking strong actions to reduce air pollution.
They are checking construction sites to make sure they follow rules to control dust and other pollutants.
The Bombay High Court has ordered these checks.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has even stopped work at 62 sites that were not following the rules.
They are also doing a special three-day clean-up to reduce dust in the city.
Bakeries are also being asked to use cleaner fuels.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has a list of rules that all construction sites must follow, like using water sprinklers and covering materials.
The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) is also checking sites and giving notices to those that are not following the rules.
All these efforts are to make the air cleaner, especially during the winter when pollution is worse.
NMMC has started direct inspections of construction sites to enforce dust and pollution-control measures during the winter smog period.
BMC has issued stop-work notices to 62 construction sites for violating air pollution norms and launched a three-day dust-mitigation drive.
PMC has intensified inspections of construction sites in Kamothe and Kharghar to enforce Bombay High Court's anti-pollution guidelines.
Bombay High Court has directed civic bodies to enforce pollution-control measures at construction sites, leading to the introduction of SOPs and guidelines.
Bakeries in Mumbai are being targeted for using polluting fuels, with many switching to cleaner options.
