NPCI Eyes Credit Revolution Using UPI Data and Unified Lending Interface
Imagine how easy it is to send money using UPI in India.
Now, imagine borrowing money just as easily!
The company that helped make UPI popular is planning a new way for people to borrow money.
They want to use the information from your UPI payments to help banks decide quickly if you can borrow, and how much.
This new system, called the Unified Lending Interface, could make borrowing money much faster and simpler.
It might even help people who haven't been able to get loans before to borrow money easily.
This could be a big change, like how UPI changed how we pay for things, this new idea could change how we borrow.
NPCI plans to revolutionize retail lending using UPI data and a new Unified Lending Interface (ULI).
The ULI aims to leverage real-time UPI transaction data for faster, lower-cost credit scoring and decisioning.
Early pilots are already linking credit cards and pre-approved credit lines directly to UPI for seamless borrowing.
This initiative could extend formal credit access to millions of first-time borrowers, particularly in smaller towns.
UPI recorded a record high of ₹27.28 lakh crore in transaction value and 20.7 billion in volume in October 2025.
