Australian AI startup Firmus raises $2 billion backed by Nvidia

A company in Australia named Firmus builds big buildings that hold the computers used for artificial intelligence, also called AI.

These buildings are called data centres, and they use a lot of electricity and special computer chips.

Firmus just received a huge amount of money — $2 billion — to build more of them.

One of the investors is Nvidia, the company that makes many of the computer chips AI needs.

Around the world, investors are pouring more money into tech startups than ever before.

In the first half of 2026, startups raised a record $510 billion.

In all of 2025, they raised $440 billion.

Much of this money is going toward buildings, power, cooling and chips rather than new software.

Some people worry that so much spending might not earn back the money it costs.

If AI turns out to be less useful than expected, some of these huge investments could be risky.
