Himesh Reshammiya Discusses Fewer Songs in Hindi Films
Himesh Reshammiya is making music for a new film called Yeh Prem Mol Liya.
He said the film has six songs.
Older films such as Maine Pyaar Kiya had many more songs.
Himesh explained that making and promoting films used to cost less.
Today, many platforms and a large number of daily song releases create more competition.
He said a song can now take more than a year to become a big hit.
He also said new composers can be talented, even though some music may be made mainly to gain approval.
According to him, music decisions are now influenced more by business calculations.
Himesh Reshammiya is composing music for Sooraj Barjatya’s upcoming drama Yeh Prem Mol Liya.
The film will have six songs, compared with 14 in Maine Pyaar Kiya and 10 in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
Reshammiya said producers previously faced fewer platforms and more manageable promotion and production costs.
He said roughly 300 songs are released daily across languages, making it harder for new music to become a hit quickly.
He added that music-making has shifted from collaboration toward producer- and director-driven calculations.
