Rebel Trinamool Faction Names Candidates for Bengal Assembly Bypolls
Two groups inside the Trinamool Congress have chosen different candidates for two West Bengal elections.
The Ritabrata Banerjee-led group chose Ehtasamul Haque in Nandigram and Shafiuzzaman Sheikh in Rejinagar.
Another group, led by Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, had already announced its own candidates.
The Election Commission has not yet decided which group can use the party’s name and election symbol.
Other political parties have also selected candidates.
The BJP has not announced its candidates yet.
People must submit their nomination papers by September 16.
Voting will happen on October 6, and the results will be announced on November 9.
The bypolls are needed because the seats became vacant after the elected legislators kept other constituencies.
