Delhi High Court Restrains Patanjali's Chyawanprash Ad
Two companies, Dabur and Patanjali, make a popular healthy jam called Chyawanprash.
Patanjali made an advertisement that said other Chyawanprash brands were a 'dhokha,' meaning a trick or deception.
Dabur, which sells a lot of Chyawanprash, got upset and told the court that this ad was unfair and made all Chyawanprash seem bad.
The court agreed with Dabur.
They told Patanjali they have to stop showing the ad on TV and online very soon.
The judge explained that it's not fair to say other similar products are deceptive, even if you think yours is the best.
This is to make sure advertising is honest and fair for everyone.
The Delhi High Court has granted an interim injunction restraining Patanjali Ayurved from broadcasting its Chyawanprash advertisement.
Dabur India, the market leader, alleged the ad constituted commercial disparagement by labeling other Chyawanprash products as 'dhokha' (deception).
The court ruled that calling other Chyawanprash 'dhokha' amounts to commercial disparagement and goes beyond permissible advertising.
Patanjali defended the ad as 'puffery and hyperbole' not specifically targeting Dabur, but the court found it disparaged the entire product category.
Patanjali has been ordered to remove the advertisement from all electronic mediums within 72 hours, with the next hearing set for February 26, 2026.
