BJP Chief Accuses Congress of Backing Infiltrators Amid SIR Protests

BJP president Nitin Nabin criticized Congress and Rahul Gandhi over protests about changes to voter lists.

He said the opposition was defending people he called infiltrators.

He also accused opposition leaders of working with anti-social elements to create disorder.

Nabin said people in India would not let the opposition’s aims succeed.

The protests were about alleged problems with a voter-list review called the Special Intensive Revision, or SIR.

Protesters were asking for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to be removed.

Nabin spoke at an event in Varanasi honoring a group of bikers taking part in a campaign connected to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The article reports Nabin’s accusations and the protesters’ demands; it does not establish whether the alleged irregularities occurred.
