AMD Unveils MI450 Superchip with OpenAI's 6-Gigawatt Backing

AMD, led by Lisa Su, unveiled its new AI superchip, the Instinct MI450, at a conference in San Francisco.

This chip is designed to compete with Nvidia's AI hardware.

The MI450 has 432 GB of high-speed memory and is claimed to be 10 times faster than AMD's current top chip.

AMD also introduced the EPYC Venice, the first server CPU made with 2nm technology, which is more power-efficient.

Big companies like OpenAI, Meta, Microsoft, and Oracle have agreed to use AMD's new hardware.

OpenAI alone plans to use as much power as six nuclear plants for their AI needs.

AMD is also working on a future chip, the MI500, which they say will be even more powerful.

This move is AMD's biggest step yet to challenge Nvidia's lead in the AI market.
