Akash-NG Missiles Complete User Evaluation Trials
India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully completed the user evaluation trials of the Akash-NG missile system.
These trials, which were observed by senior scientists and IAF representatives, showed that the missiles can hit targets in the air at different distances and heights.
The Akash-NG is special because it uses technology made in India, like a device that helps it find targets and a powerful engine.
It is designed to protect India from various kinds of threats in the air.
The successful trials mean that the Akash-NG is ready to be used by the Indian Air Force, making India's air defence stronger.
The missile system is stored and operated from sealed containers, which makes it easier to transport and use.
The DRDO has also developed another version called Akash Prime, which has an indigenous active Radio Frequency seeker for better accuracy.
Akash-NG missiles successfully completed user evaluation trials, meeting provisional staff qualitative requirements (PSQR).
The missiles intercepted aerial targets at various ranges and altitudes, including near-boundary-low-altitude and long-range-high-altitude scenarios.
Akash-NG is equipped with an indigenous RF seeker and a solid rocket motor, and features a canisterised launcher for better deployability.
The system includes a multi-function radar, command and control unit, and missile launch vehicle, all designed by DRDO with the help of Indian industries.
Successful trials pave the way for the induction of Akash-NG into the Indian Air Force, enhancing India's air defence capabilities.
