Delhi Revises Solar Policy With Free Rooftop Systems

Delhi is changing its solar policy to help more families use sunlight to make electricity.

Homes that use up to 400 electricity units each month may receive a rooftop solar system of up to 3 kW.

Eligible families will not need to pay the installation cost at the beginning.

The Delhi government and the Central government will each provide a ₹78,000 subsidy.

The Delhi government will also cover any remaining gap between the subsidy and the installation cost.

Families using up to 200 units will keep their current electricity subsidy.

They may also earn incentives for electricity saved, while extra power can be sent to the grid for compensation.

Vendors must maintain the systems for five years, and Delhi wants them installed on about 2.30 lakh rooftops by March 2027.
