Ancient Kevda Fossils Found in Assam
Scientists found very old leaves from a plant called Kevda in Assam, India.
These leaves are about 24 million years old, which means the Kevda plant has been around for a very long time.
The researchers studied these leaves and found that they look almost the same as the Kevda plants we have today.
This is a big deal because it helps us understand how plants have changed over millions of years.
The Kevda plant is also important in India because it is used to make sweet treats, perfumes, medicine, and in religious ceremonies.
This discovery shows that the Kevda plant has been a part of India's natural history for a very long time.
Fossilized Kevda leaves discovered in Assam's Makum Coalfield are 24 million years old.
Researchers from the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences analyzed the fossils.
The fossils match modern Kevda plants, confirming their ancient lineage.
Kevda is used in traditional Indian sweets, perfumes, medicine, and religious rituals.
The discovery bridges a gap in the evolutionary timeline of the Pandanaceae family.
