Madhya Pradesh Political Punch: Congress Wins Datia, BJP Finds Relief
People in India vote to choose their leaders.
In a city called Datia, the Congress team won the vote, but the BJP team lost.
The losing team still felt a little relieved because they also lost another vote far away in Bankipur, and that news got more attention.
The winning team did not say nice things about each other even after their win.
Two important ministers had officials stop closing shops that were running inside homes, so the action ended quickly.
Another minister got a small electric shock in a lift and stopped using it, so a different lift is kept ready for her.
After the vote, both teams removed some leaders and closed some of their groups.
The BJP closed its whole Datia group, and the Congress also dissolved many of its groups.
Some people wondered why the winning team closed groups even after winning, while others thought the team was just getting stronger.
Congress won the Datia by-election in Madhya Pradesh, but its leaders withheld praise for each other over the victory.
The ruling party also lost the Bankipur by-election in Bihar, the constituency of its national president, and that loss's wider margin overshadowed the Datia defeat nationally.
An administration drive against commercial activities on residential plots in the state capital was stopped within 24 hours after two cabinet ministers requested the chief minister to halt it.
A senior cabinet minister has stopped visiting the districts under his charge in protest over his diminished power and standing.
In the by-poll's aftermath, the BJP dissolved its Datia executive committee and removed the district president, while the Congress suspended a former legislator before the Election Commission announced results and later dissolved its committees and cells.
