Gastroenterologist ranks sugar for gut health
A doctor who specializes in stomach and gut health has shared her thoughts on different types of sugar and sweeteners.
She says that white sugar is the worst for your gut because it can cause problems like acidity, gas, and inflammation.
Brown sugar is a tiny bit better, but it can still cause bloating.
Jaggery is less processed and might be easier to digest, but too much can still cause gas and loose stools.
Honey is gentler on the stomach and has some good properties, but too much can also cause bloating.
Erythritol is generally safe and doesn't cause much gas, but too much might upset some people's stomachs.
Stevia doesn't harm blood sugar and is easy to digest, but some processed versions might cause bloating.
Monk fruit is the best option because it doesn't cause any of these problems.
The doctor also suggests keeping track of how much sugar you eat and trying to eat more fruits and vegetables to reduce your sugar intake.
White sugar is the worst for gut health, causing acidity, gas, and inflammation.
Brown sugar is slightly better but still causes bloating and acidity.
Jaggery is less processed and easier to digest but can cause gas and loose stools in excess.
Honey is gentler on the stomach and has antibacterial properties but can cause bloating in excess.
Erythritol is generally safe and produces less gas but may cause stomach discomfort in large amounts.
