RBI Speeds Up Cheque Clearing, Reducing Times
The RBI is making cheque processing much faster.
Instead of taking 2-3 days, cheques will be cleared in just a few hours.
Banks will scan cheques continuously.
In the first phase starting October 4, 2025, banks have to confirm if a cheque is good by 7 PM or it will be automatically approved.
The second phase begins January 3, 2026, with quicker confirmation deadlines.
This should make it much quicker for people to receive money from cheques.
RBI is implementing a new system to expedite cheque clearing.
Cheque clearing time will be reduced from 2-3 days to approximately four hours.
Phase 1 starts October 4, 2025, with continuous scanning from 10 AM to 4 PM.
Drawee banks must confirm cheques by 7 PM in Phase 1 or they're auto-approved.
Phase 2, from January 3, 2026, requires cheque confirmation within 3 hours.
