Assam’s Sanchipat Puthi Chitra Gains National Recognition At Exhibition

Sanchipat Puthi Chitra is a traditional art form from Assam.

Artists make its manuscripts using the processed bark of the sanchi tree.

They write texts and add paintings and decorative designs.

The manuscripts can contain religious, literary and cultural stories.

This art helped people preserve knowledge before modern printing existed.

Artist Sujit Das created a work called Dashavatar in this style.

His work was selected for the 65th National Exhibition of Art in New Delhi.

This gave Assam’s old manuscript tradition attention across India.
