Kurnool Market Yard Sells Onions at Rs 2/kg Amid Farmer Distress
The government is helping onion farmers in Kurnool because they are struggling to sell their onions at a good price.
The government is giving money to farmers based on how much land they use to grow onions.
The government is also selling some of the onions it bought earlier at a very low price, Rs 2 per kilogram, to help farmers get rid of their stock.
Some onions were also sold at auction.
This is happening because there are too many onions available, and traders were buying them from farmers at very low prices, sometimes even below the price they were purchased at.
Kurnool district administration is selling onions for Rs 2 per kg.
The district administration is discontinuing the MSP of Rs 1,200 per quintal.
Around 1,900 MT of onions were procured at the MSP.
Farmers will receive Rs 50,000 per hectare in financial assistance.
