MP Urges Centre to Address Type 1 Diabetes in Kids
A leader in India named M. Sribharath spoke in Parliament about a big problem: many children in India have a type of diabetes called Type 1 diabetes (T1D).
This is not like the common diabetes; it starts in childhood and needs insulin and careful monitoring for life.
India has the most children with T1D in the world, with new cases every year.
The cost for treating one child is very high, around ₹50,000 each year.
The government helps with insulin in some hospitals, but it's not enough.
The leader asked the government to do more, like providing better care and supplies for these children so they can stay healthy.
India has the highest number of children with Type 1 diabetes (T1D) in the world, with 22.9 lakh cases and 15,900 new cases annually.
T1D is an autoimmune condition requiring lifelong insulin and glucose monitoring, with an annual cost of ₹50,000 per child.
Government-provided insulin is inconsistent, and Ayushman Bharat covers only inpatient treatment, leaving families to bear recurring costs.
MP M. Sribharath urged the Centre to provide outpatient T1D coverage, uninterrupted insulin and glucose supplies, and dedicated clinics.
Rajasthan has set an example by establishing T1D clinics in all government hospitals, which Sribharath wants to see replicated nationally.
