Airplanes are checked very carefully before they fly to make sure they are safe.

Sometimes, checkers find problems, which are called defects.

A group called the DGCA keeps track of these problems in India.

In the latest count, flight checkers found 889 serious defects.

That is more than the year before, when they found 692.

The numbers were lower in earlier years too, like 487 in 2023.

The DGCA shared these numbers with the Indian Parliament.

A minister named Murlidhar Mohol answered questions from a Congress leader.

The DGCA also took action against airlines in 42 cases for safety problems.

It checks planes using audits, inspections and surprise spot checks to keep people safe.
